Show Me / Tell Me - Vehicle Safety Check Questions (From 4th December 2017)
At the beginning of your Practical Driving Test, you will be asked one Tell Me Question which will test your knowledge about how to carry out some basic checks on your vehicle that will help to keep you safe, legal and working efficiently. Some of the questions are about checks under the bonnet e.g. fluid levels, some are about checks outside the car e.g. tyre tread depth, and some of the questions are about checks inside the car e.g. lights working.
The, during your test, you will be asked one Show Me question. This will involve demonstrating how you would do a simple task such as washing your windscreen, when it is safe to do so while you are driving.
So can you fail if you get one or both of the SMTM questions wrong? Well no, you can't, BUT by getting one or both wrong you will be given a 'Driving' or 'Minor' fault. So if you get 15 other Driving/Minor faults during the driving part of the test, you'll wish you'd got the SMTM questions right!
