About me
I have been offering patient and friendly driving tuition to learners of all ages and levels of experience, in West Cumbria since 2016.
I am trained in using modern teaching and coaching methods to help develop the necessary skills and attitude toward driving within my learners.
If you are taking your first lessons, returning to driving after a break, or would like to brush up on your driving skills, with patience and understanding I can help you to gain the confidence you need by focusing on you, on how you learn best and on what you want to achieve.
I believe that learning to drive isn't about doing just enough to pass your 'L' test, but it is about much more. Learning the mechanics of how to make a big lump of metal do what you want it to do is the easy part. In my view, learning to drive is about learning to make independent decisions which are going to keep you and everyone around you safe. It's about being confident and competent enough to be an assured driver in all situations. It's about understanding the impact of your driving on other road users and on the environment. I also believe that learning to drive should be fun!!

My Background
So you might want to know a little bit more about me...
I graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 1993 with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Psychology. I qualified as a Careers Adviser when I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Careers Guidance at The University of Paisley in 1996.
I then returned home to West Cumbria to work with Cumbria Careers (which became Connexions Cumbria, and then most recently, Inspira). So I have 20 years experience of working with people, especially teenagers, helping them to learn, grow, make decisions, and take responsibility. Over the years I have received additional training and qualifications in Teaching & Assessing, Leadership & Management, Counselling Skills, and a host of other relevant areas such as Learning Difficulties & Disabilities, Drugs & Alcohol and working with vulnerable or challenging young people.
Ok...all of this might not be absolutely necessary for teaching people to drive, but it does give me a great skill set that I can put to good use with all of the learners that choose to learn with me. It does show that I can communicate with people, especially teenagers, I understand the issues facing younger people today, and I have a bunch of transferable skills that will really help me to do the very best I can for every learner.
My journey to become an ADI began when I decided to make a big change to my life and become my own boss. It was a huge decision and a big step to take after 20 years with the same team of wonderful people. But it's the best decision I ever made! I found a brilliant trainer in Ian Lavell from Qualify: Driver Education & Training based in Dumfries. He gave me heaps of confidence to get through my training to become fully qualified in less than 10 months.
